A practical approach to crown lifting
The work needs to be balanced because taking too many lower branches in one go can leave a tree top-heavy or visually awkward. We assess the trunk, branch positions and the clearance needed, then choose cuts that improve usable space beneath the canopy without over-lifting it.
Crown lifting can be particularly useful in compact Dublin gardens where a healthy tree is worth keeping but the lower branches are taking up too much usable space or interfering with a driveway or path.
What can be included
- Improved clearance over paths, lawns and driveways
- Removal or shortening of selected low branches
- More usable space beneath suitable mature trees
- Can improve access without reducing the whole crown
- Advice where ordinary pruning or crown reduction is more appropriate
